MTGO Draft: EMN-SOI #12

Welcome to the last EMN-SOI draft (for now). I do a lot of KLD after this.

  Pack 1 pick 1:

  My Pick:

Boon and Restraints are both first picks but I'm a sucker for rares.

  Pack 1 pick 2:

  My Pick:

Maybe I should have taken the Stitchwing but I'll try to stay on colour for now.

  Pack 1 pick 3:

  My Pick:

There's no white cards so I'll grab the Boon.

  Pack 1 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Brazen Wolves is one of the strongest cards in the pack. If I happen to fall into red then I'll be happy that I picked this up. I don't really lose much in black or white anyway.

  Pack 1 pick 5:

  My Pick:

So far these packs are underwhelming...

  Pack 1 pick 6:

  My Pick:

Slayer to go with the Boon. Any of the white cards would work though.

  Pack 1 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Solid card even without the Graf Rats.

  Pack 1 pick 8:

  My Pick:

Let's see if I can pick up some ways to create tokens.

  Pack 1 pick 9:

  My Pick:

Sold 3 drop.

  Pack 1 pick 10:

  My Pick:

In case I need Delirium for the Foulbloods.

  Pack 1 pick 11:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 12:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 1:

  My Pick:

I guess I'll pick another Boon. No bombs though. I should have considered taking the Savage Alliance since I had the Brazen Wolves but I think at this point I'm in pretty deep on both colours. I might have been able to drop white though.

  Pack 2 pick 2:

  My Pick:

Good thing I didn't drop white as Faith Unbroken is very good.

  Pack 2 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Let's diversify the aura removal.

  Pack 2 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Tough pick with the Slayer in here but hopefully it comes back around.

  Pack 2 pick 5:

  My Pick:

The ultimate replay crasher, unfortunately it's a good pick here so I'll have to take it.

  Pack 2 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 7:

  My Pick:

It's always nice to have one of these in the deck.

  Pack 2 pick 8:

  My Pick:

Perhaps I should have picked the enchantment? I never played it and it feels so expensive though...

  Pack 2 pick 9:

  My Pick:

Maybe I'll be able to get back something nice from my opponent's graveyard.

  Pack 2 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 11:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 12:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 13:

  My Pick:

I'll probably run this.I'm starting to like it more and more.

  Pack 2 pick 14:

  My Pick:

  Pack 2 pick 15:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 1:

  My Pick:

I should have taken the Angelic Purge. It fits the deck a lot better. To the Slaughter doesn't help when the opponent can just sacrifice the creature I stick the Choking Restraints on.

  Pack 3 pick 2:

  My Pick:

Disappointing 2nd pick but sometimes it can be the start of a very aggressive curve.

  Pack 3 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Maybe Hope Against Hope would have been the better choice.

  Pack 3 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Raredraft.

  Pack 3 pick 5:

  My Pick:

I have 2 Gavony Unhallowed and a Foulbloods. I still don't think it's enough to justify running this but I'll take it anyway.

  Pack 3 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Wow this is very late. I'm not complaining though.

  Pack 3 pick 8:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 9:

  My Pick:

Cheap combat trick if I need it.

  Pack 3 pick 10:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 11:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 12:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 13:

  My Pick:

  Pack 3 pick 14:

For the first match I'm up against RB and I come out of the gates quickly with Guardian, Inspiring Captain and Boon on his Furyblade Vampire. My opponent plays a Supplicant but has no play the next turn. I'm hesitant so I hold my team back. My hunch is correct and he Madnesses out Twins off the Supplicant. I'm playing way too much if I can tell that was going to happen. A Stromkirk Mentor grows the Twins but he keeps it back. I then play Chocking Restraints on the Twins. Slayer picks the Boon back up for me and another Mentor comes down to grow an Innkeeper. Ruthless Disposal wipes out most of my team and I'm left with a Guardian and Creeper to his Mentor, Innkeeper and a Gatstaf Arsonists. An Outrider finds a Fiend Bender for me but he adds a Deranged Whelp and Fouldbloods to his side. I cast Scavengers to get back the Slayer, which let's me use the Boon another time. It looks like I'm stabilizing at 3 life with Guardian, Slayer and Outrider to his Arsonists and Innkeeper. Slayer gets burned off but I then play Rise from the Grave on the Scavengers to get the Slayer but this time I grab Choking Restraints which went to the bin when my opponent sacrificed his creature for Ruthless Disposal. He sees the next play so sends in the Arsonists which trades for some creatures. On the back swing I cast Borrowed Grace to deal just enough damage to take the game.

Game 2 I mulligan to 6 and he starts off with Falkenrath Gorger, Call the Bloodline and Boon on my Pale Rider. I cast a Boon of my own on his Gorger and he replaces it with a Supplicant.Strength of Arms allows my Dawn Gryff to eat the Supplicant the following turn. He's stuck on 3 lands and starts pitching cards for tokens to slow the game down. Sensing I have him on the ropes I put a Faith Unbroken on the Gryff to remove a chump blocker and attack with it and a Guardian of Pilgrims bringing his life to 11.  I Boon his Deranged Whelp and get in for another 6. He insists on attacking with his tokens to gain life which earns him an extra turn as he sits at 8 life. An Outrider finds a Dauntless Cthar and he finally trades 2 tokens for the Guardian. He's out of gas though and sees the writing on the wall so he scoops them up.

Match 2 I'm paired against WG and my opponent starts off with a Kessig Prowler and Ironclad Slayer to my Dawn Gryff that immediately dies to Rabid Bite. He quickly has me down to 11 as I try to stabilize with a Gavony Unhallowed which falls to an Aim High on the Slayer. Gossipmonger, Dauntless Cathar and Inspiring Captain come down on my side to put some obstacles in my opponent's way. Silverfur Partisan with a Clear Shot (which trades for the Incited Rabble) leaves me at 9 life and a Dauntless Cathar to his Slayer a wolf token and the Prowler. A Duskwatch Recruiter allows him to gain more card advantage but unfortunately the replay crashes because somehow I pull this one out even though I was on the ropes.

For Game 2 he starts off quickly again, this time with the Prowler and Gnarlwood Dryad. He shows and Island while playing a Foul Emissary and my Field Creeper isn't looking like it'll be enough. the Prowler transforms and he starts doing some damage as I fall to 14 life. I add a Slayer and Pale Rider to my team but the Prowler keeps getting through. He sacrifices the Emissary for Mockery of Nature which destroys the Creeper and now I'm in trouble. I try to double block the Mockery but Borrowed Grace ends up demolishing my blocks. I quickly die after that.

In the tiebreaker I start off with a Priest and Guardian while my opponent does nothing for once. I attempt to apply some pressure but he puts Chocking Restraints on my Foulbloods. Inspiring Captain allows me to drop him to 13 life as he can't find a Forest. I know this won't last forever so I start getting in with everything, including the Priest. Turns out I get lucky and and concedes the game after playing only one spell.

For the Final Match I'm up against WG again and he starts off with a Duskwatch Recruiter. Things escalate quickly as he puts a Lunarch Mantle on it and cast Prey Upon to kill my Gossipmonger. I can't find a Swamp to play To the Slaughter so instead I play a Dauntless Cathar but the Recruiter is huge and eventually transforms. He also sticks a Hope Against Hope on it and my only chance it to race. My Fiend Bender and Dauntless Cathar start getting in past his Ulvenwald Captive and I chump with a Dawn Gryff. Inspiring Captain helps my cause but I can only get him down to 7 as his flying monster comes over for lethal damage.

I start off Game 2 with a Guardian and Dauntless Cathar which face down his Noose Constrictor.  Outrider finds a Fiend Bender as he adds a Woodland Patrol. He sticks a Hope Against Hope on the Patrol and Prey Upons my Bender. I Dead Weight the Patrol to shrink it to a more manageable size but he sticks Equestrian Skill on it. Now it's a 6/5 with First Strike, Trample and Vigilance. Gross. The Woodland Patrol is simply too big as even when I blocked with 5 creatures it came out unscathed. I eventually succumb to it and end the draft 2-1.

That last match was tough as the Auras really made his creatures to much to handle. I still come away with 2 packs though so if I have time I may jump into another EMN-SOI draft.
